In Memoriam - Ed Verhoff

The following note is by Paul Larrabee, Managing Director of Corning Place Communications

It is with profound sadness that I learned of the untimely passing of Ed Verhoff – a remarkable man committed to lifting people up – and encouraging others to do the same.

His priorities were clear – his family, his fellow Albany Fire Fighters, and a community of friends and neighbors that stretched far beyond his Eagle Hill neighborhood in Albany’s 14th Ward.

When he saw others struggle, he took the lead and searched and found ways to combine energy and action to meet an essential need.

He also would not hesitate to lend full-throated support to what he thought was right and just.

His concerns for Fire Fighters, in Albany and across the state, recognized that care and concern for their well-being must reach beyond the physical impact of trauma associated with the job and consider the needs of the whole person.

If necessary, he was willing to pursue a different path to meet an objective, taking confident,
purposeful steps that paved the way to positive, meaningful outcomes – without fanfare or
acclaim.

In grief, we are all strengthened by reflecting on a conversation, call, or cup of coffee with Ed that made each day brighter.

His enthusiasm for his career as a Fire Fighter, support for working people, and investment of time with youth were built on a foundation of selfless service.

We pray for strength and comfort for Kim, EJ, and Liam; Albany’s Fire Fighters; and all who loved him.

Eddie, thank you for sharing your gifts and friendship. You lifted us up.

Peace.
